ESPN 150 CB Jalen Tabor taking his time
By Josh Moyer
ASHBURN, Va. -- Cornerback Jalen Tabor (Washington, D.C./Friendship Collegiate), the No. 19 overall player in the ESPN 150, is in no rush to commit.
He's joining several teammates for a school tour this week to Ohio State, Michigan, Pitt and more -- but he didn't expect those visits to sway him one way or another. In fact, fans of his top schools might have to wait a long time to see where he winds up.
"I definitely think I'm going to wait until signing day," he said, shortly after earning an invitation to The Opening during Sunday's Nike Football Training Camp. "And, trimming my list, I'll probably be down to six or seven before the season starts."
Cornerback Jalen Tabor is the No. 19 overall player in the ESPN 150.
At this point, he said, his top five is still evolving but will likely come from some combination of nine schools: Vanderbilt, Florida, Florida State, Maryland, Clemson, Tennessee, South Carolina, Alabama and Michigan.
Out of those schools, the four-star cornerback said he had expected to see the Wolverines around the middle of the week.
"I'm just looking forward to see what they have to offer," he added.
Tabor said he's paying close to attention to each team's scheme. He doesn't plan to wind up at a college that primarily plays zone, but that doesn't mean he can't contribute there or read those receivers.
During seven-on-sevens, Tabor pointed to the receiver almost immediately after the intended target crossed the line of scrimmage. "In! In!" Sure enough, the play was a slant over the middle.
"Nice read, nice read," safety Daijon Carson (Washington D.C./H.D. Woodson) called out from the sideline.
Tabor, who holds more than two dozen offers, said he's intent on finding an aggressive defense that plays up his strengths. For now, though, he's enjoying a slight lull before his recruitment picks up again.
