Ohio State might know who the first member of its 2014 recruiting class is by the end of the week.
Wide receiver Lonnie Johnson (Gary, Ind./West Side), who has made no secret about his affinity for OSU, said via text message that he will announce his choice at 5 p.m. in his high school gymnasium on Friday.
The 6-foot-2, 180-pound junior has interest from Ball State, Cincinnati, Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Louisville, LSU, Michigan State, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon and Purdue. But it will come down to a choice between Ohio State, Bowling Green and Illinois, which offered Johnson on Monday.
The Buckeyes’ offer floored Johnson last Friday as he called Ohio State’s heightened interest a dream come true and indicated that he has wanted an offer from the Buckeyes since he was 12.
Recruited as an athlete, Johnson is being looked at by Ohio State as a wide receiver.
The junior caught 31 passes for 777 yards and added 13 touchdowns this season. As a defensive back, he had 29 tackles, eight pass break-ups and six interceptions.
