Three-star Laster waiting for OSU offer

7/30/2012

Three-star athlete De’Niro Laster (Cleveland Heights, Ohio/Cleveland Heights) does not have a leader among teams to offer, but he is willing to hold out as long as possible in order to get an offer from Ohio State.

“Until national signing day,” the 6-foot-3, 220-pound senior said when asked about how long he will wait to obtain a Buckeyes offer.

Originally, Laster wanted to commit before the season started, but with no Ohio State offer, he will play the waiting game and see which teams come along.

As of now, Laster has offers from Cincinnati, Kansas and several MAC programs. Despite the two offers from BCS schools, Laster said neither leads for him.

“Nope, just open still,” he said.

Laster has not thought about official visits yet, either.

“I just want to get around everywhere before I make a decision,” he said. “Me and my family want to check out all the places.”

Two programs that have not offered but could host Laster for official visits depending on where his recruitment goes are Michigan State and Pittsburgh. The Spartans wanted Laster to make it to a camp, but he was unable to. He camped at Pittsburgh, and the Panthers could be close to offering despite a commitment from tight end/H-back Tony Harper.

“They’re telling my coach they’re real close to offering,” he said. “They haven’t pulled the trigger yet because … I don’t know.”

Mainly recruited as a receiver/tight end, Laster said Nebraska is interested in him at outside linebacker. He will play the position this season for Cleveland Heights, where he transferred to at the beginning of the year.

Laster's teammate, ESPN 300 WR Shelton Gibson, could be a Buckeye soon after naming Ohio State as the prohibitive favorite for his commitment.
