Garrett makes friends at Ohio State camp

7/28/2012

Clifton Garrett (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield South) came to Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights camp with the intention of chilling out and meeting some players he’d talked to on Twitter.

By the time it was over, the 6-foot-2, 218-pound Garrett was pumped to be in Columbus.

While he didn’t participate, Garrett caught the action from the stands and couldn’t believe the energy coming off the field and the buzz generating in The Horseshoe.

“I wasn’t expecting all those fans to be there,” Garrett said. “It was the first camp I ever saw that many fans show up. I had a good time with that.”

He also had a good time with Dante Booker (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) and Raekwon McMillan (Hinesville, Ga./Liberty County).

The big three linebackers out of the class of 2014 all have offers to Ohio State, but Friday was a chance to bump elbows instead of shoulder pads.

“When I got a chance to the meet them, it was cool,” Garrett said. “We now have each others numbers and it was great to see them there. I wanted a chance to get on the field and meet some of the kids, not really play but meet the guys and couldn’t, but it was a great time.”

The highlight of the night for Garrett was when Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer broke away from individual drills to come and send salutations to the 2014 recruit.

“That shows me how much he wants me to come there,” Garrett said. “I have such respect for him. I thanked him for doing that. I was impressed.”

Incidentally, Garrett has the Buckeyes ranked highly on his list, along with Michigan State and Notre Dame.
