OSU 2015 targets all over first ESPN 300

7/18/2013

The ESPN Junior 300 for the Class of 2015 was released Tuesday and two things are certain: No. 1 Urban Meyer hasn’t lost his recruiting touch and No. 2, the two-time national champion still loves to recruit Florida.

Of the 54 scholarships Ohio State has offered out among the 18 states and Washington D.C., 53 names appear in the first edition of the 300.

Of those 53 names, 15 belong to Floridians as George Campbell, Torrance Gibson, Jacques Patrick, CeCe Jefferson, Jeffrey Holland, Sherrod Pittman, Jake Fruhmorgen, Martez Ivey, De’Andre Johnson, Jordan Scarlett, Kendrell McFadden, John Burt and Devante Peete hold offers.

Meyer didn’t forget about his own state as Eric Glover-Williams, Jerome Baker, Justin Hilliard and exchange student Hjalte Froholdt all appear on the list as well. Incidentally, the four Ohioans with offers from Ohio State are tied with Georgia for fourth-most among OSU offers. Virginia and Texas are just ahead of them with Florida firmly in the lead.

Meyer knows his way around the top 10 as well as offers have gone out to No. 1 Jashon Cornell, No. 3 Campbell, No. 4 Mitch Hyatt, No. 5 Ivey, No. 6 Tim Settle and No. 9 Terry Beckner.

The surprise of the bunch comes from Virginia as Settle joins Garrett Taylor, Jahvoni Simmons, Ricky DeBerry, Matt Burrell Jr. and Jaason Lewis with offers from Ohio State. All appear on the ESPN 300 and the sextet is part of a group of 13 Virginians on the list.

As they usually do, Florida has the most ESPN 300 selections with 40 names and is followed by Texas (38), California (33) and Georgia (29).

Ohio came in with 15 juniors on the list. Froholdt is the highest ranked player among Ohioans at No. 14 and falls behind only Trenton Thompson, Settle and Daylon Mack among defensive tackles in the nation.

Glover-Williams comes in next at No. 29 overall and is ranked the fourth-highest athlete. Hilliard ranks in at 145th overall, is seventh in Ohio and is the eighth-best outside linebacker in the nation. He’ll play a hybrid linebacker/safety this season for Cincinnati St. Xavier. Baker is ranked No. 157 overall, is eighth in Ohio and is the ninth-best linebacker in the nation.

Ashton White (Washington D.C./Friendship Collegiate) is the only junior with an Ohio State offer who doesn’t appear in the ESPN 300.
