The offer list for 2014 safety John Bonney (Houston/Lamar) continues to grow.
And the most recent offer is a big one.
The six-foot, 175-pound prospect received an offer from Ohio State on Friday, giving him 11 offers total.
"It's great," Bonney said. "Having a school with that much tradition and crowds like that and having coach Urban Meyer, the coach that he is, I feel blessed and honored that they are interested in me like that and offered me."
Buckeyes' cornerbacks coach Kerry Coombs first showed interest in Bonney earlier this fall with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Tom Herman has also been in on his recruitment. Once the Buckeyes showed interest, Bonney began paying closer attention to Ohio State.
"I watched them a lot, especially when coach Coombs said that he was interested in me," Bonney said. "That's when I really got a chance to get back and watch a couple of games and everything. It was pretty cool. Even though they knew they weren't going to play a bowl game and for them to still go undefeated, that was pretty good. I think the coaching staff over there is great."
Coombs pictures Bonney as a cornerback for the Buckeyes. Bonney played both safety and cornerback while helping his Lamar team to a 15-1 record and the Texas Class 5A Division I state championship game.
"Every time I talk to [Coombs] he said that he would like to see me play corner because of my size and being aggressive and everything," Bonney said. "I think it's great. If I can use my size to my advantage it will help me out. I'll work on my hips and work a lot on that this summer and get ready. I know my senior year they'll let me pick and choose but I'll probably play a lot of corner, as well as safety, so I'm going to work a lot on my corner skills over the summer so I can get better and everything."
Bonney entered the 2012 season with three offers and watched his offer list grow throughout the year. Auburn, LSU, Oklahoma State and UCLA are among the teams that have offered him and he's getting in-state interest from Texas and Texas A&M.
While he wants to begin narrowing down some of his options, he also doesn't want to rush the process.
"I'm going to have to start narrowing things down I think pretty soon now because all these offers are starting to come in," Bonney said. "I know my dad and my mom are all in agreement that we want to try to come up with something soon but at the same time, we don't want to rush things. So we'll see how everything plays out."
He said he wants to get up to Columbus, Ohio, soon to check out the Buckeyes' campus.
"They really want me to come up there as soon as possible, so, I'll get with my dad and try to make it happen," Bonney said. "Hopefully I can get up there pretty soon."
