Glover-Williams gives thumbs up to Guiton

10/21/2012

Kenny Guiton has a fan in one of the biggest recruits from the Class of 2015. Eric Glover-Williams (Canton, Ohio/McKinley) already has interest from Alabama, Auburn, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Oregon, Syracuse and UCLA, but nothing wowed him like Guiton’s performance on Saturday.

Glover-Williams was on hand at The Horseshoe to watch Guiton and Ohio State pull out a 29-22 overtime win against Purdue and soaked up every second of the heroics.

“I think he stepped up and did what he was able to do to give his team the win,” Glover-Williams said. “He came in during the clutch when his team needed him and made big plays.”

That’s high praise coming from a dual-threat quarterback like Glover-Williams who has burst on the scene this season for his 7-1 Canton McKinley Bulldogs.

Glover-Williams saw it before in Guiton, citing the junior’s touchdown pass against Indiana in a 52-29 win over the Hoosiers. So when Guiton wobbled at first, but then went 6-of-11 for 77 yards with a touchdown pass and two-point conversion, it was something Glover-Williams said was expected.

The fact the game-tying touchdown and two-pointer came with three seconds left in regulation just added to the excitement.

“I’ve seen Braxton go down before and saw Kenny score a touchdown, so I was pretty sure he would be able to move the offense,” Glover-Williams said. “He just needed a little time to get used to the game speed.

“I respect what he did a lot. I look forward to doing something like that when I get older. It was great to see. I wish I could play in a game like that.”

To date, Glover-Williams is 44-of-87 for 692 yards with 8 touchdowns against 3 interceptions. Where the sophomore does most of his damage is with his feet as he leads the Bulldogs in rushing with 1,304 yards and 15 touchdowns on 167 carries.
