After Tim Gardner became the 16th commit in the 2013 class for Ohio State, it was a slow week for the Buckeyes. They found out running David Williams put them in their top five and learned wide receiver James Quick is on their list for official visits.
But to date, the Ohio State class continues to impress.
Though it is still lacking a linebacker – or two – and a wide receiver – or two – the class is ranked No. 5 by ESPN as Urban Meyer continues to fine-tune the future.
That 2013 class is about to get ready for its senior season as two-a-days began for most of them last week.
With that in mind, here’s a look at what all 16 recruits did last season as juniors:
Eli Woodard (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern) – The crown jewel of the class to date, the 6-foot, 185-pound cornerback recorded 40 tackles, five pass breakups and didn’t allow a touchdown.
Cam Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio, Trotwood-Madison) – The 6-foot, 203-pound cornerback made 46 tackles, broke up 12 passes and had four interceptions in helping Trotwood-Madison to a state title.
Joey Bosa (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) – The 6-foot-4, 260-pound defensive tackle is the son of former Miami Dolphins defensive end John Bosa. He had 56 tackles – 24 for loss –and recorded 9½ sacks for a program that's among the best in the country.
Jalin Marshall (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) – Recruited as an athlete, the 5-foot-11, 196-pound Marshall threw for 782 yards and six touchdowns and rushed for 1,859 yards and 20 scores.
Marcus Baugh (Riverside, Calif./John W. North) – A tight end cut right out of the mold of Aaron Hernandez, the 6-foot-4, 229-pound Baugh caught 30 passes for 528 yards and seven scores.
Evan Lisle (Centerville, Ohio/Centerville) – The 6-foot-5, 265-pound offensive tackle was the key to Centerville reaching the playoffs with his agility and raw athleticism.
Ezekiel Elliott (St. Louis/John Burroughs) – The 6-foot, 198-pound running back rushed for 1,802 yards and scored 34 touchdowns. He added 23 receptions for 401 yards. Elliott totaled 42 touchdowns.
Billy Price (Youngtown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) – The 6-foot-4, 305-pound defensive tackle and all-state selection made 40 tackles – 10 for loss – and added three sacks and an interception.
Jayme Thompson (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic) – The 6-foot-2, 183-pound safety had 77 tackles – 13 tackles for loss – four sacks, averaged 28.0 yards on kick returns and intercepted two passes.
J.T. Barrett (Wichita Falls, Texas/Rider) – The 6-foot-1, 205-pound dual-threat quarterback completed 102 of 171 passes for 1,605 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 1,521 yards and nine touchdowns.
Michael Hill (Pendleton, S.C./Pendleton) – The 6-foot-2, 315-pound defensive tackle made 81 tackles – 25 for loss – recorded 10 sacks and had four forced fumbles.
Taivon Jacobs (Forestville, Md./Suitland) – The 5-foot-10, 165-pound wide receiver made 35 catches for 921 yards – 26.3 yards per catch – and scored 13 total touchdowns.
Darron Lee (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) – The 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete logged touchdowns of 100, 89, 75 and 62 yards last year. Tabbed as a safety, he can play anywhere on the field.
Tracy Sprinkle (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) – The 6-foot-3, 260-pound defensive tackle recorded 80 tackles, eight sacks and 25 quarterback hurries at defensive end.
Tim Gardner (Indianapolis/Lawrence Central) – The 6-foot-5, 315-pound offensive tackle helped Dre Townsend pass for 1,780 yards and Anthony Shelman run for 779 yards.
