Jamarco Jones raves about OSU camp

7/30/2012

Very few weeks have left a lasting impression like the last seven days for Jamarco Jones (Chicago/De La Salle Institute).

The 6-foot-5, 285-pound offensive tackle picked up three more offers out of the Big Ten, leaving only Minnesota, Wisconsin -- both have shown interest -- Nebraska and Penn State on the outside looking in.

But that wasn’t the high point of the week for Jones, who visited Ohio State’s Friday Night Lights after picking up an offer from the school on June 10.

That came when the Buckeyes trotted out Orlando Pace and LeCharles Bentley last week to offer the 2014 tackle instruction in the Horseshoe.

“I mean, those are two of the best linemen around,” Jones said. “Orlando Pace played for a while in the NFL, and LeCharles Bentley would probably be in the league still if he didn’t get hurt.

“I got some great tips from them. I tried to get over the [shock of being trained by a pro] quick because I needed to do my best while I was there.”

Jones, who came as a part of the Core 6 Athletes group, didn’t need to worry about impressions as his play has been drawing rave reviews from coaches and critics alike.

But it wasn’t just instruction from Pace and Bentley that caught the eye of Jones as fans weathered thunderstorms to get a look at some of the best at Friday Night Lights.

“They had quite a few fans there,” Jones said. “You got a little bit of a feel for how a game would be. It was a great experience. It gave me an even better look at the school.”
