Urban Meyer has done it yet again.

With a stockpile of defensive linemen already in the fold, the Ohio State coach dipped into the class of 2014 and offered a 12th defensive end in the class. It’s also the 16th defensive lineman he’s offered out of the junior class.

Thad Matta was probably smiling around noon Wednesday afternoon, especially when the Ohio State basketball coach read what an ESPN 60 junior from Texas had to say about the Buckeyes.

Just when it seemed Ryan Timmons' recruitment was getting simple, it got more complicated. That's what happens when an SEC powerhouse and a nearby college enter the race late.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Airius Moore (Beavercreek, Ohio/Beavercreek) headed to Tropicana Field last week for the Under Armour Combine in hopes of further improving his stock.

The 6-foot, 215-pound linebacker has offers from Cincinnati and Illinois and is hearing from several programs in the Northeast and Midwest.

"Boston College sends me a lot of mail," he said. "Penn State, Ohio State, Louisville, Iowa -- I can't really think of any more."

Urban Meyer’s love for the trenches continued late Tuesday when Ohio State offered yet another offensive tackle.

This time the two-time national champion dipped his toes in the Midwest to offer an ESPN Watch List junior. It’s the 15th offensive tackle the Buckeyes have offered from the class of 2014 and the 17th lineman overall.

It looks as if Ohio State hasn’t given up in finding an offensive lineman to round out its 2013 recruiting class.

The Buckeyes are working hard on getting at least one more big man in the class.

They have targets in Dan Skipper (Arvada, Colo./Arvada) and Cameron Hunt (Corona, Calif./Centennial). That’s not news. What is news is the recent developments of landing the two.

Mariano Rivera, save the split-finger fastball. The same goes for you Rollie Fingers, with your almost unhittable slider. The best closer in the recruiting business might indeed be Ohio State coach Urban Meyer.

On the job 13 1/2 months with the Buckeyes, the two-time national champion’s early returns show just how strong he is at slamming the door shut on a class.

Watch: UA combine (WR vs. DB)

Wide receiver vs. defensive back one-on-one matchups from the Jan. 4 Under Armour Combine held at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla. The combine featured many of the nation's top 2014 and 2015 prospects.
Ohio State hardly needs motivation thanks to the chip on its shoulder already firmly in place after sitting out the postseason with a perfect record. But just in case any players required any extra fuel heading into workouts or wanted a little help putting together some goals, BuckeyeNation is here to lend a hand with some records that could be in reach with another productive offseason.

SOLO TACKLES IN A GAME
  • Who owns it: The combination of a one-man wrecking crew and an abundance of chances to deliver hits has popped up a few times in Ohio State's decorated history, though Tom Cousineau's busy afternoon against SMU in 1978 still stands alone in the record books. The relentless, athletic linebacker chased down 28 overall tackles that day, but it was his 16 solo takedowns that established a new standard for the Buckeyes that have followed behind him.
  • Who wants it: A season like Cousineau delivered in 1978 with more than 200 tackles might be out of reach, but on a single-game basis, Ryan Shazier might be more than capable of threatening a record that hasn't had anybody come within two tackles of tying it in nearly 20 years. But the rising junior has made it well known that there's no ballcarrier he won't or can't run down with his blend of elite speed and strength, and he broke into double-figures in solo tackles twice as a sophomore. His personal best is 11, set this season against Illinois, but there will plenty of opportunites to top that next season.
  • Relevant number: Only one player in the Big Ten worked better alone on defense than Shazier last season, with his 70 solo tackles ranking No. 2 in the conference. The Buckeyes were obviously relying on Shazier to pick up the slack for a thin position group and stay on the field as much as possible, and he emerged as both durable and reliable at the second level -- finishing with at least 10 total tackles in half of the games during the perfect campaign.

As signing day approaches for the 2013 class, a 2014 standout made headlines on Tuesday when he announced his top five.

ESPN Watch List defensive end Da’Shawn Hand (Woodbridge, Va./Woodbridge), considered by many to be No. 1 player in next year’s class, released his top five via Twitter. The group included Alabama, Michigan, North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

“The reason why they’re my top five is I love all the coaching staffs,” Hand said. “The academics are amazing. I’ve already visited three of the five schools. I need to visit South Carolina and Michigan, and those aren’t too far.

Throughout his entire life, Matt Domer (Chicago/Mount Carmel) has gotten by on his speed and quickness. So as colleges begin recruiting the 2014 prospect, why would he stop now?

“Speed is my specialty,” Domer said. “I can break away when I have to.”

Domer said his fastest time in the 40-yard dash was a 4.38 unofficially, and he ran a 4.41 at the Northern Illinois camp this summer. That time and his performance that day earned him a scholarship offer from the Huskies.
