The Early Offer is RecruitingNation's regular feature, giving you a daily dose of recruiting in the mornings. Today’s offerings: Ohio State has made quarterback recruiting a major priority under Urban Meyer and it’s a trend that doesn’t seem to be changing anytime soon; and it’s a good year for talent in the Pacific Northwest, especially in Washington. And then there were 10 for ESPN 300 running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom), who narrowed his list of 50 scholarship offers to a more manageable group on Friday.

Four-star wide receiver Jalen Brown (Phoenix, Ariz./Mountain Pointe) holds nearly 30 offers, including ones from some of the top programs in the country. This past week, the 6-foot-2, 185-pound athlete had an opportunity to see four of them up close, as Brown took a Midwest trip and visited Ohio State, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin.

Brown relayed via text what stood out about each visit.

Christian Kirk has always been ahead of schedule.

This spring, the Scottsdale (Ariz.) Saguaro sophomore went toe-to-toe with the West region's top juniors on the field and on the recruiting trail. But that's nothing new for the 5-foot-10, 190-pound wide receiver.

Kirk began playing football at 5 years old, but don't tell that to the administrators of the league he played for.

RB Mixon still open to everyone

Holding more than 40 offers, running back Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom) is arguably the most sought-after recruit in the West region. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound, four-star back is the top running back in the West and the No. 135 player in the country. His offer sheet has seemingly grown by the minute this spring, but he isn't in any hurry to narrow it down.

Despite tweeting out a list of 16 programs several weeks ago, Mixon said Sunday that he only did that to highlight the schools recruiting him the hardest, not anything to be taken as a group of finalists.

"I'm still talking to a lot of people," Mixon said. "The recruiting thing has been crazy the past couple of weeks. I've pretty much been taking it well. I talk to them before school, during lunch and after school. I'm not to the stressful part yet, but the hard part has been staying in contact with everybody."

Many high school prospects are evaluated for months or even years before a college program extends a scholarship offer. Highlights from sophomore seasons are compared to those of junior seasons to see progression and potential. Players who make a name for themselves as juniors are visited as seniors to gauge their possible impact at the next level. And then there are prospects like Joe Mixon (Oakley, Calif./Freedom) for whom the entire process takes three or maybe four days.

There are still seven months before the start of the 2013 season, and the teams and their order figure to change frequently, but it's never too early to take a look at the Way-Too-Early Top 25 for 2013.

And with three national championships in the past four years, there's no reason to change the team that's on top. Ohio State, with a schedule that's conducive for another unbeaten run, is ranked No. 4.

There must be something about Phoenix (Ariz.) Mountain Pointe High School that the Buckeyes like. Maybe it's the scenery.

Just days after offering 2013 offensive tackle Kenny Lacy, the Buckeyes were at it again, but this time it was two offers to Class of 2014 prospects.

The Buckeyes offered wide receiver Jalen Brown, who led the Pride to a Division I state runner-up finish, and offensive guard teammate Natrell Curtis.

The Elite 11 field of 25 – the original 24 plus Trent Dilfer’s special addition, Shane Cockerille (Baltimore/Gilman) – has been set. Of the entire field, nearly a third will come from the Midlands region.

Seven players will represent the Midlands, including six from Texas and the seventh a former NFL head coach’s son residing in Colorado. Here’s a breakdown of each player from the region heading to Redondo Beach, Calif., from July 18-22.
