ESPN 300 RB Thomas visits FSU, Florida
By Derek Tyson
BRADENTON, Fla. -- ESPN 300 running back Racean Thomas (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) was one of the top performers on Saturday at the IMG 7on7 National Championships.
While in Florida, Thomas had a chance to visit both Florida and Florida State, and the 5-foot-10, 202-pound back came away impressed with both schools.
While in Florida for the IMG 7on7 National Championships, ESPN 300 RB Racean Thomas made his first visit to Gainesville and UF.
"We visited Florida State and Florida yesterday -- it was great," Thomas said. "I already know most of the coaches at FSU. They really recruit me hard and want to get me down there every time I can.
"That was my first time going to Florida. It was pretty fun; there was a lot of stuff I had never seen about Florida like meeting the coaches and seeing the facilities. Now that I went to Florida, I want to start looking at them and evaluating them more."
In addition to Florida and Florida State, Thomas said there are four other schools -- Alabama, LSU, Auburn and Oregon -- that are starting to stand out to him.
Alabama signed four ESPN 150 running backs last year and has a commitment from Bo Scarbrough, the No. 2-ranked athlete in the country. Thomas said Scarbrough, who plays on the same 7-on-7 team as Thomas, is not shy about recruiting Thomas to Bama.
"Bo, he always try to bribe me and stuff," Thomas laughed. "But it really doesn't affect me at all. I just have to evaluate each situation."
Thomas, the No. 35-ranked player in the country, said that a recent visit to Auburn made an impression on him.
"I went there for Big Cat Weekend, and it was great," he said. "I saw guys commit, and they were happy to go there. I saw it in their eyes that Auburn was where they wanted to go. I know it's a great place."
Thomas said he hopes to start narrowing things down in the near future.
"I'm really trying to narrow it down to at least three or four teams," he said. "Hopefully that will be soon."
