LB Johnny Ragin waits to hear from Ducks

9/2/2012

Among the handful of in-state unofficial visitors at Autzen Stadium for the Ducks' season-opening win over Arkansas State was one of the state's top uncommitted prospects.

Johnny Ragin III (Wilsonville, Ore./Wilsonville) opened his senior season on Friday night with a 30-20 loss to Sprague. Playing against a 6A team was a step up for his 5A Wilsonville squad, but Ragin likes the challenge of playing against bigger and better competition.

"We have a lot of good players in our league, but those 6A teams are just bigger and stronger," said Ragin, who also had two carries at running back. "It's good to play against teams like that because it gets us ready for anything we'll see at our level."

The three-star linebacker had nine tackles, including two for a loss. A day later, the 6-foot-2, 210-pound Ragin had a chance to visit with the Oregon coaches and tour the facilities while in Eugene for the game.

"It was great. I've seen it all before, but it was good to talk to the coaches again," Ragin said.

The Ducks have been waiting to see senior film from Ragin.

"It's only one game, but I feel like I played pretty good. I gave the coaches my film and they said they will watch it this week and touch base later this week to let me know where things stand."

The three-star linebacker holds offers from Oregon State, BYU and Portland State, but has been waiting patiently for other schools to offer.

"I really want to see what happens with Oregon. It would be great if they offer, but Cal and UCLA have been showing me a lot of interest lately. I'm just going to stay patient and give it my all every time out," Ragin said.

Ragin was joined in Eugene by his teammate, former BYU commit and current Oregon target Tanner Shipley (Wilsonville, Ore./Wilsonville).
