Oregon Ducks

PAC 12
With just three young quarterbacks on the roster and a fourth -- Damion Hobbs (Cedar Hill, Texas/Cedar Hill) -- coming in this season, the Ducks will likely sign one or two QBs in the Class of 2014. It is a fairly strong year at the position out west, particularly in Northern California, a place where the Ducks do very well on the recruiting trail.

Here is a look at six names the Ducks could offer before signing day rolls around in February of 2014.

The Oregon Ducks landed their first commitment in the Class of 2014 on Tuesday, and it was a big one. ESPN Watch List LB Jordan Hoiem (Waikuku, Hawaii/Baldwin) got his "dream" offer when Ducks defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti offered him over the phone. Hoiem didn't hesitate and gave the Ducks his pledge right then.

Hoiem's pledge makes two years in a row that the Ducks have kicked off their recruiting class by landing a member of the Watch List. Hoeim has always loved the Ducks but had yet to receive an offer. That's what made his commitment surprising. As soon as he received the offer, he jumped all over it. Could others follow suite and commit once they receive an Oregon offer?

We'll touch on that and other topics in this week's edition of the DuckNation Mailbag.

In what was described by the coaches as the best group of defensive backs at a Nike Football Training Camp over the past few years, a virtual unknown stole the show. Cornerback Denzel Fisher (Compton, Calif./Centennial) came in with a chip on his shoulder after hearing about all the high-profile players that would be attending the Los Angeles NFTC. According to the 6-foot-2, 170-pound Fisher, he wouldn't have it any other way.

"I like being the underdog," Fisher said. "You can get hyped all day, but it's what you do when the lights come on that will be remembered."

LOS ANGELES -- Receivers hardly found any open space against Naijiel Hale (Bellflower, Calif./St. John Bosco) on Sunday at the Nike Football Training Camp, so it was only fitting that a strong showing earned the fast-rising cornerback an invite to The Opening this summer.

Hale has scholarship offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, California, Nebraska and Washington State, but that list figures to grow in the upcoming evaluation period.

“I was shocked when I got the invite,” Hale said. “I thought there were a couple of defensive backs that also stood out. I went out there without too much pressure and I performed well.”
