Oregon Ducks: LSU Tigers
HUEYTOWN, Ala. -- College coaches from across the country came to see ESPN 150 running back Racean Thomas (Oxford, Ala./Oxford) this spring, but it was the usual suspects -- Alabama and Auburn -- who were in attendance for his spring game on Saturday night.
The Alabama native didn’t disappoint. In two quarters of action, Thomas rushed seven times for 124 yards and two touchdowns. He took his first carry 73 yards for a score.
With that type of performance, it’s no surprise that new schools continue to enter the mix.

Sophomore athlete Jaylin Hayward is undecided, which is normal for a prospect with two years of high school left. He has plenty of time to choose a school from among his impressive offer list, which includes programs like Alabama, LSU, Florida State, Florida, Miami and Tennessee. But before he picks a college, he has to pick a position -- which could be trickier.

Every recruiting cycle leaves programs and their fans wondering what happened to certain recruits who seemed destined for their school. While none of them were absolute "locks" to sign with Oregon, the Ducks had a long list of realistic targets who signed elsewhere.
The Ducks had plenty of opportunities to make a huge statement on the recruiting trail with the 2013 class. The coaching change from Chip Kelly to Mark Helfrich had an effect on many recruits, but a difference in scheme preference also led to a couple potential Ducks looking elsewhere. A couple former Oregon commits flipped to sign elsewhere and a couple others were just given up on. Notre Dame eventually signed three of the Ducks' top targets in the Class of 2013.
Here are a few players who could have easily been Ducks had one or two things gone differently.

Streeter Lecka/Getty ImagesAlabama, with three of the past four national titles, is No. 1 in the Way-Too-Early Top 25 for 2013.There are still seven months before the start of the 2013 season, and the teams and their order figure to change frequently, but it's never too early to take a look at the Way-Too-Early Top 25 for 2013.
And with three national championships in the past four years, there's no reason to change the team that's on top. Oregon, which finished the season No. 2 in the polls, starts there in 2013 as well.

SAN ANTONIO -- Wednesday was a day off for the U.S. Army All-American Bowl teams. Instead of working out and participating in drills, the players took in visits around the city -- including a stop at the Alamodome for photo opportunities and to see their game apparel -- and used the day to recover from two days of practice.
The teams will return to the fields on Thursday in arguably the most important practice of the week. Here are five things to keep an eye on for Thursday’s practice:

SAN ANTONIO -- ESPN 150 outside linebacker Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian) isn’t big on speaking publicly. He’d rather let his game do the talking -- and it speaks volumes.
On Monday, the 6-foot-5, 222-pound linebacker officially confirmed that he will announce his college plans during Saturday’s U.S. Army All-American Bowl. Oregon, Texas A&M and Ohio State are his three finalists.
Mitchell said all three schools -- and even a fourth, Oklahoma -- had their positive qualities throughout his recruiting process. It was a feeling of comfort, however, that seemed to win him over.

ESPN.comReuben Foster (center) is torn between good friends Dee Liner (left) and Tray Matthews (right).No. 1 ILB Reuben Foster has voiced his desire to play with at least one of his SEC-bound friends next season. But will he follow Tray Matthews to Georgia or hook up with Dee Liner wherever the ESPN 150 DL settles? It remains to be seen, but the mystery surrounding his recruitment keeps Foster at the top of our #BlueChipBattles.
Each week, RecruitingNation summons its writers from around the country to compile a list of the top 10 battles for elite football recruits leading up to February's signing day.
Here are this week's top battles
Now that football season is over, No. 1 overall ESPN 150 prospect Robert Nkemdiche (Loganville, Ga./Grayson) says he is averaging about 30 minutes per game playing basketball for his school, while also working with a personal trainer on power lifting and speed drills. A couple of schools still hoping to sign the five-star prospect spent time during the last two weeks trying to bond with the 6-foot-4, 272-pound senior.
First up was LSU, with the Tigers' defensive line coach making the trip to see Nkemdiche last week.
“I spent time with Coach Brick (Haley), and we went out to eat,” Nkemdiche said. “He also came to watch me practice basketball. He tells me to go where my heart goes, and he feels he has the tools to help me get to the next level. Honestly, I like LSU a lot. He says that he could help me develop the tools to get to the NFL. He says if I come in there and work, I will be perfectly fine and play as a freshman. I plan to give them an official visit.”
