Przybylo's Mailbag: Edwards' comments

Most thought this week would be an interesting one with so many Oklahoma verbal commits and top targets playing in the Under Armour All-America Game or the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and it hasn’t disappointed. Bob Przybylo answers all of your recruiting questions. Have a question? Send it to his mailbag at bprzybyloespn@gmail.com.

John in Edmond, Okla., asks: What did you think about Mario Edwards’ comments about OU and Norman?

Miller Safrit/ESPN.comMario Edwards, No. 1 in the ESPNU 150, had some harsh words for Oklahoma on Saturday.
Bob Przybylo:My inbox and Twitter account have been flooded with this question in the last 48 hours. Personally, I really didn’t have a problem with what Edwards (Denton, Texas/Ryan) told ESPN’s Mitch Sherman. Not everybody thinks Norman is a great place to be.

As for his comments about saying players weren’t that positive during his official visit two weeks ago, the last month was tumultuous for the Sooners. It was tough to showcase everything that is great about OU when, at the time, everything was far from being great inside the program.

Edwards is allowed to say what he said, but what is key is how the OU coaches respond to everything. And instead of fighting the biggest uphill battle at this point, the Sooners need to look elsewhere at defensive end.

Remember, there was another defensive end that made an official visit at the same time as Edwards -- Kyle Kelley (Irvine, Calif./Woodbridge). Obviously Kelley is not the No. 1-ranked player in the ESPNU 150 like Edwards, but he is a quality three-star prospect that can be swayed from Arizona if the Sooners put in the effort.

Bryce in Dallas asks: Do you expect the Sooners to get any commitments from these all-star games?

Bob Przybylo: Not stemming directly from the games, but it could be a chance for some of the commits to get in the ear of top targets.

I still think offensive tackle Zach Banner (Lakewood, Wash./Lakes) is the No. 1 priority for the Sooners. He will be at the U.S. Army game along with OU linemen commits John Michael McGee (Texarkana, Texas/Texas) and Ty Darlington (Apopka, Fla./Apopka).

And if you want a long shot, it could be a good week regarding OU’s pursuit of wide receiver Stefon Diggs (Olney, Md./Good Counsel). Diggs has developed a friendship with Dorial Green-Beckham (Springfield, Mo./Hillcrest).

Green-Beckham is friends with OU commit Durron Neal (St. Louis/De Smet Jesuit), and the Sooners will also have receiver commit Derrick Woods (Inglewood, Calif./Inglewood) and tight end Taylor McNamara (San Diego/Westview) on hand to try to lure other kids to Norman.

Jason in Tulsa asks: Is there any real chance that Texas ends up getting cornerback De’Vante Harris? That would be a big loss.
