Jordan Mastrogiovanni adds Sooners offer

By Bob Przybylo

Oklahoma is going to get one more shot at the stellar group of 2013 recruits at Dallas Jesuit. Inside linebacker Jordan Mastrogiovanni confirmed he is the latest to receive an offer from the Sooners.

Mastrogiovanni, 6-foot-2 and 225 pounds, is a four-star prospect ranked No. 6 in the nation at inside linebacker.

“I’ve been an OU fan ever since I was a little kid,” Mastrogiovanni said. “I’m definitely going to check it out over the summer.”

Four-star linebacker Jordan Mastrogiovanni admits he has been an Oklahoma fan since he was young.
The Sooners have fallen just short with the other top Dallas Jesuit products. Offensive J.J. Gustafson attended OU’s junior day and had the Sooners in his list of favorites. He committed to Texas A&M.

OU was even closer with four-star wide receiver Jake Oliver. It was down to OU and Texas, and the Sooners were in great position after junior day. But after visiting Texas, Oliver felt at home with the Longhorns and committed.

OU waited a little bit longer with Mastrogiovanni. But because he was a fan of the team since he was a little kid, it shouldn’t hurt the Sooners in the long run.

Mastrogiovanni was a favorite of former Oklahoma defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Brent Venables.

After Venables left to become the defensive coordinator at Clemson, Venables didn’t wait long to offer Mastrogiovanni. OU, on the other hand, wasn’t as quick to show the interest was still there under first-year linebackers coach Tim Kish.

It is obvious that has now changed after further evaluation. Mastrogiovanni has offers from LSU, Notre Dame and Texas A&M, among several others.
