ESPN 300 WR Lodge to visit Big 12 school

By William Wilkerson

ESPN Junior 300 wide receiver DaMarkus Lodge (Cedar Hill, Texas/Cedar Hill) has some business to tend to on Friday, as his Longhorns play defending Class 5A, Division I state champion Allen.

Once the game is over, he’ll shift his attention toward Norman, Okla., where he is expected to attend the Sooners’ home game against West Virginia.

Lodge, the No. 4 wide receiver overall and No. 5 player in Texas, is scheduled to make the trip with 2014 OU defensive back commit and teammate Marcus Green and 2015 three-star DB Darrell Miller.

The No. 41 player overall, Lodge visited Oklahoma on Aug. 7 and came away much more impressed than he anticipated.

“It was actually more than I expected,” Lodge said. “I didn’t expect OU to be what OU is. I heard it was kind of boring but to me it is a great school. Academics are great. The wide receivers coach is great. The whole coaching staff is great. I love OU.”

Green is doing what he can to push the Sooners on Lodge, but it’s going to be a tough sell for any program in pursuit. He already has offers from Arizona State, Auburn, Baylor, Clemson, Iowa, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, UCLA and Utah.

Lodge also said he would like to attend Texas A&M’s highly-anticipated showdown against Alabama on Sept. 14 and a Florida game to be determined.

Until Saturday comes about, though, he’ll be focused on doing what he can to help the Longhorns defeat Allen. Last week, in a 38-28 win over defending Class 4A state champion Denton Guyer, he caught six passes for 147 yards and a touchdown.
