2014 LB/S hybrid talks Sooners offer

By Damon Sayles

In a word, Christian Sam (Allen, Texas/Allen) has been hot.

On Thursday, the safety/outside linebacker hybrid picked up his first two Big 12 offers from Baylor and Texas Tech, respectively. On Friday, the 6-foot-2, 205-pound athlete earned his third offer from the conference, as Oklahoma officially entered the picture.

Sam now has five offers overall. The last three have come in a 24-hour span, and the latest offer comes from the reigning Big 12 co-champion.

“It’s a great place,” Sam said. “I know that, and I’ve never even been there.”

Sam said he is being recruited to Oklahoma by linebackers coach Tim Kish and quarterbacks coach/co-offensive coordinator Josh Heupel. Sam now has offers from Oklahoma, Baylor, Texas Tech, Boise State and SMU, in addition to interest from Oklahoma, Oregon, Michigan, Ole Miss, Arizona and Indiana.

Sam said he’s looking to take a visit to Norman, Okla., for one of the Sooners’ spring practices in early March. While he didn’t admit to having a favorite, he did say Oklahoma is high on his list.

“I know they have good academics there. That’s good, so I can always fall back on something,” Sam said. “It’s a great football program with a great staff, from what I’ve seen.”

Sam was a starter on an Allen team that won the Texas Class 5A Division I state championship in December. He will attend the SMU junior day on Saturday.
