Position swap in the plans for 2014 QB?

By Brandon Chatmon

A important decision could be looming for Destri White (Mesquite, Texas/Horn). But it’s not the decision you might think for the 2014 quarterback prospect.

As White was attending Oklahoma’s junior day this weekend, the Texas native had a candid conversation with Sooners’ defensive coordinator Mike Stoops.

“He was real straightforward with me,” White said. “He felt like it could be better for me, in the long run, to play safety. He said it’s a better fit for me. I respect his position but I feel like I can play any position on the field.”

Although it’s White’s preference to play quarterback at the next level, it’s not quarterback or nothing.

“I’m open to it,” White said of a move to safety. “I’m open to playing whatever position a team needs me but I do feel like I can play quarterback at the highest level. It will play a factor when I’m choosing a school once signing day comes around.”

It will play a factor but it’s clearly not the deciding factor for White, who enjoyed his time in Norman, Okla.

“They make you feel at home up there,” he said. “They have nice facilities. I’ve been to Texas, TCU; I’ve been to all of them and they rank right up there.”

White doesn’t hold a Sooners offer at this point, but one could be coming in the future.

“They’re going to come watch me in the spring and go from there,” he said. “At this point they're up there [among my favorites], they’re high on my list. If they offer, they’ll be close to the top.”
