RB Devon Thomas decommits from OU

ESPN Watch List running back Devon Thomas (Broken Arrow, Okla./Broken Arrow) said Monday night he has decommitted from the Sooners, saying it was a hasty decision to commit to OU last month.

Devon Thomas is considered the best tailback in Oklahoma in the Class of 2014.
Oklahoma isn’t out of the picture for Thomas' services, but the Sooners aren’t the best fit, he said.

Thomas, who is 5-foot-11 and 190 pounds, said he told OU coaches Cale Gundy and Bob Stoops on Sunday night. He said they weren’t happy about it, but they are hopeful Thomas might still end up a Sooner after he takes in more of the recruiting experience.

“I realized I hadn’t seen all the schools that I want to,” Thomas said. “I lost a lot of looks from other schools after committing. It was a rushed decision.”

Thomas has offers from Oklahoma State and Clemson, among several others. But he said he wants to explore Notre Dame, LSU and Alabama before making a decision.

He reaffirmed his commitment to the OU coaches before the Sooners’ 51-48 overtime win against Bedlam rival Oklahoma State on Nov. 24. But Thomas said following that event, he started to have second thoughts.

“This was a real tough decision. I still have a lot of time so I wanted to do this now before things got more crazy,” Thomas said. “I talked it over with my parents for quite a while and this is the decision that we’ve come up with.”

With the Thomas decommitment, OU now has one pledge for its 2014 class in Watch List wide receiver Armanti Foreman (Texas City, Texas/Texas City).
