DT Manning moves up announcement date

By Damon Sayles

It’s been quite a journey, but ESPN 150 defensive tackle Justin Manning (Dallas/Kimball) now knows where he wants to play college football.

In fact, he’s so confident that he moved up his announcement date from Friday to Thursday.

On Sunday morning, Manning said he will choose among Oklahoma, Texas A&M and TCU at 3:30 p.m. CT Thursday at the Kimball High School auditorium. All three hats will be on the table for the No. 88 player in the ESPN 150.

Manning said he’s let a couple of people close to him know about his decision. Many feel he will follow in the footsteps of his older brother DeMarcus Granger, who played at Oklahoma from 2006-09. Others feel he will land at either Texas A&M or TCU, two programs who have put their marks on new conferences in their first year of play.

“It really got to a point where I made a decision to where I wasn’t sure,” Manning said. “After that, I’d have to start all the way over again. Even after I took my official visits, I had to start over and take visits again.

“But now, I feel comfortable with my decision.”

Manning, the No. 8 defensive tackle in the country and No. 12 player in Texas in the 2013 class, said trust was a big factor in his decision. He has strong relationships with all three coaches recruiting him. Manning’s recruiting contacts are defensive line coach Jackie Shipp (Oklahoma), wide receivers coach David Beaty (Texas A&M) and cornerbacks coach Clay Jennings (TCU).
