Treadwell talks visits, timeline, Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Michigan will need a big, athletic receiver next season, especially if Devin Gardner winds up at quarterback.

One of the bigger names remaining on Michigan's 2013 recruiting board would fit the bill perfectly.

Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee) has kept track of recruiting classes as well as shifts in depth charts. The 6-foot-3 four-star receiver wants to play early, so both will likely affect his decision. He's also looking at how teams are playing, and while the Wolverines are running a quasi-spread offense with Denard Robinson, he's well aware of their plans to move to a pro-style offense, so he has read up on that.

"I really didn't know too much about pro-style offenses," Treadwell said. "But I've seen a little more with other schools so it's kind of good to have a pro-style offense."

Treadwell's list of his top five remains: Michigan, Michigan State, Ole Miss, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State, but he'll be taking visits to other schools as well. He said that he'll take unofficials to Michigan, Illinois and Notre Dame after his senior season.

Illinois is a recent addition to his interests. 2013 quarterback commit Aaron Bailey could have something to do with Treadwell's interest, as the receiver has said he wants to make sure he attends a school with a talented QB who can throw downfield. Also, the Fighting Irish are new to his list, but with the proximity to Chicago, as well as their academics and football team, it makes sense.

"They're constantly recruiting me," Treadwell said of Notre Dame. "So they came in and they're having a good season."

His official visits will be Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Ole Miss. Recruits are allowed to take five official visits, so Treadwell could add two more officials if he so chooses.

Treadwell said he hopes to take all of his visits shortly after his high school season is over and then spend time making a decision with his family.

Treadwell had said he would announce at the Under Armour All-America game in early January, but he said that might change.

"I just want to make [the decision] with my family, instead of stressing them out trying to get down to the Under Armour game, so they can all be there with me," Treadwell said. "Most likely it will be before signing day."
