DB Robbins to reschedule Sooners visit
By Bob Przybylo
Three-star cornerback Lamar Robbins (Miami/Southridge) was scheduled to take an official visit to Oklahoma for its showdown against Notre Dame, but it turns out he was unable to make the trip.
“I had a game Saturday so I didn’t make the trip,” Robbins said. “We’re going to reschedule it for some other time.”
The silver lining in the news is that Robbins didn’t see another team lose on an official visit. Robbins has been on two previous official visits to Purdue and West Virginia, and neither had a positive result.
Michigan blew out Purdue, while Kansas State dismantled the Mountaineers. Notre Dame, of course, pulled out a 30-13 victory against the Sooners.
“It’s not really disappointing to miss the visit because I have to put my team first,” Robbins said. “The atmosphere would have been nice, but I never thought Notre Dame was going to do what it did.”
Robbins said he let OU defensive backs coach Mike Stoops know Friday that he couldn’t make the visit. Though no date has been set, Robbins said he is going to be free after the second week of November.
Miami Southridge will not make the playoffs, said Robbins, and his final game is Nov. 9. OU has two home games left. It hosts Baylor on Nov. 10 and has the Bedlam showdown with Oklahoma State on Nov. 24, which is Thanksgiving weekend.
Robbins has talked up the Sooners for a long time and has developed a solid relationship with Stoops, but he said he is not going to commit anywhere unless he has seen the campus.
“It’s a minor setback,” Robbins said about missing the visit. “I’ll be free for most of November and all of December so I’ll still get a chance to see the campus. I still really want to see things.”
