First glance: Breaking down Kansas
By Jake Trotter
Campus location: Lawrence, Kansas
Conference: Big 12
Record: 1-5 (0-3)
Record vs. OU: 28-68-6
Last game: Backup quarterback Michael Cummings replaced starter Dayne Crist in the third quarter and nearly led the Jayhawks to a comeback win over Oklahoma State. After trailing 20-0, Kansas scored two touchdowns in the fourth quarter but couldn’t come all the way back, as OSU held on for a 20-14 win.
Key player:James Sims is KU’s best all-around weapon. He had 138 yards and a touchdown rushing for the Jayhawks in the loss to OSU. He is averaging 4.7 yards per carry on the season.
Why Kansas might win: The Jayhawks have been blown out only once all season, and even in that loss to Kansas State, KU was in it until the second half. And maybe the Jayhawks found something with Cummings, who looked sharp.
Why Kansas might lose: KU has been awful offensively all season and not much better on defense. Also, the Sooners will roll into this game with plenty of momentum after shellacking Texas.
