Every weekday morning, a member of the SoonerNation gives his take on three things happening in the Sooner sports world.
1. The fears of several Sooners fans were realized on Wednesday when defensive tackle Justin Manning (Dallas/Kimball) told HornsNation’s William Wilkerson that he was upset by how the Sooners have recruited him.
“If Oklahoma wouldn’t have waited so long I probably would have committed on the spot,” Manning told Wilkerson.
Some OU fans have been saying as much for weeks. It’s very possible the Sooners will still end up with Manning but if they don’t it could be a lesson learned for the coaching staff.
2. Max Browne’s decision to commit to USC was disappointing for the Sooners but not unexpected. The elite quarterback prospect decided to announce shortly after his visit to Southern California so clearly the Trojans made an impression. Now OU will turn to other prospects including in-state standout Brayden Scott but regardless the Sooners should feel good about their quarterback situation with Blake Bell, Trevor Knight and others already in the fold.
3. Trey Franks has quietly been having a solid spring for the Sooners. The receiver has been much-maligned during his first two seasons because he flashes exceptional talent but isn’t a consistent playmaking threat. If Franks can maximize his talent this fall, he could become the major X factor of OU’s offense.
