Shavon Coleman has a third official visit set up before the regular signing period for college basketball begins April 11, a week from Wednesday.
And Texas Tech, where the 6-foot-6 wing from Howard College in Texas via Thibodaux, La., is scheduled to visit this weekend, has its work cut out for it to match the impression left by his first two visits, LSU and Oklahoma.
Coleman, a former top 100 senior in high school before going the junior college route, visited LSU and Oklahoma in back-to-back March weekends before taking last weekend off the recruiting trail with most college coaches in New Orleans for the Final Four.
"At LSU, me and the players got along well," said Coleman, who would fill a major need for an LSU team that will return all five starters from an 18-15 NIT team. The Tigers lacked Coleman's length and athleticism on the wing. "I got some good one-on-one time with coach (Trent Johnson) and I got it was a good school for my major (business)."
He said he was also impressed with the Maravich Assembly Center, LSU's new practice facility and the fact that the Tigers play in the SEC.
"Pretty much the same," he said, "except LSU is closer to home."
That leaves Texas Tech.
"I hope they can show me some of the same things LSU and Oklahoma did because LSU and Oklahoma did a pretty good job," he said. "I'm looking forward to it."
He said he hopes to choose a school early in the signing period, which extends to mid-May. Coleman said he may sign his papers on the first day of the period.
