Every weekday morning, a member of the SoonerNation gives his take on three things happening in the Sooner sports world.
1. OU has some holes to fill for its 2013 class, but running back is definitely not a concern. The Sooners already have the verbal commit of Keith Ford (Cypress, Texas/Ranch) and are in the running for several big-time backs. Greg Bryant (Delray Beach, Fla./American Heritage-Boca Delray) and Derrick Green (Richmond, Va./Hermitage) have expressed a desire to visit the campus. And back Adam Taylor (Katy, Texas/Katy) could attend OU’s Red-White game April 14 with teammate and OU commit defensive end Matt Dimon. All three backs are on the ESPNU Watch List and Ford is considered one of the best backs in Texas.
2. Mid-week games aren’t supposed to be mean too much, but this two-game set for the OU baseball team Tuesday and Wednesday against Air Force could be important. The Sooners are reeling right now, no other way to explain it. OU has lost five consecutive games and is coming off getting swept at home against a struggling Texas team. As has been the problem in the past, OU is finding it tough to get the big hit in the clutch situation.
3. This looked like it could have been a rebuilding year for the Oklahoma women’s basketball team, but Sherri Coale’s club has a great chance at making it to the Sweet 16. The sixth-seeded Sooners take on the third-seeded St. John’s at Lloyd Noble Center on Tuesday night. St. John’s needed a last-second bucket to survive Creighton on Sunday, while the Sooners played one of their best games of the season in a dominating performance against Michigan. It will be interesting to see what type of crowd shows up to support the women.
