With Oklahoma’s junior day scheduled for Saturday, defensive end Matt Dimon (Katy, Texas) is looking to simply enjoy the Norman, Okla., experience and not read anything extra into it. After all, it wasn’t that long ago when he wasn’t on anybody’s radar.
Six weeks ago, Dimon was another solid defensive lineman still searching for his first scholarship offer. As the weekend approaches, the 6-foot-4, 250-pound junior has nine offers – Oklahoma included – and has many Sooners fans wondering if he will commit on Saturday.
While it’s not a guarantee that Dimon will commit, it is a guarantee that Dimon is looking at this trip seriously.
“I’m just looking to get a feel for the college, just to see what it’s like,” Dimon said. “I want to see if I like the place and see if I could see myself going there and being comfortable.”
In addition to Oklahoma, Dimon has offers from Baylor, Texas Tech, Vanderbilt, Boise State, Ole Miss, Missouri, Arkansas and Rice. Baylor was his first offer, which he picked up in January. Dimon’s most recent offer came Tuesday from Ole Miss.
Dimon said his interest in all the schools offered is high, but he classified his interest in the Sooners as “very strong.”
“They are a great program. They have been for years,” Dimon said. “They’re constantly sending players to the NFL. It’s a place you want to be.”
