Triple Option: Norvell's Twitter troubles

Every weekday morning, a member of the SoonerNation gives his take on three things happening in the Sooner sports world.

1. By now you've probably heard about Oklahoma assistant coach Jay Norvell's Twitter adventure on Tuesday. But to recap, somebody on his account reached out to six recruits, inviting them to OU’s junior day next weekend, offering them scholarships and leaving a cell phone number -- all publicly. While no one at OU has publicly said anything about the mishap, our pals at HornsNation confirmed with one of the recruits that the offer was legit and that it was Norvell that had contacted him. So what happened? Norvell most likely thought he was sending a direct message -- which is within the NCAA rules -- but instead sent a public message -- which is a secondary violation per the NCAA social media rules. So while it was illegal, it was also extremely embarrassing for the OU coach. Hopefully someone at OU will respond this week and explain what exactly happened. Regardless, we'll have an Open Records request out to the university soon.

2. New head coach Kevin Sumlin and Texas A&M are on some kind of a recruiting roll. The Aggies have picked up 13 verbal commitments for the class of 2013, including eight recruits in the ESPNU Watch List. Over the weekend, I posed a question on our forum about whether the Aggies' recruiting bonanza is an anomaly or a direct result of their move to the SEC. Personally, I think it's a mixture of both, but I'd be interested in your thoughts.

3. Bedlam basketball is in Norman, Okla., tonight, but there's absolutely nothing at stake except for pride. The Sooners have lost six in a row (13-13, 3-11 Big 12) and somehow still have a better record than Oklahoma State (13-14, 6-8 Big 12). The real question, in my opinion, is about the crowd at the Lloyd Noble Center tonight. Will Sooners fans show up to watch a game against their rival?
