Avon, Ind., junior defensive end Elijah Daniel added another impressive offer Thursday night.
Daniel, a member of the ESPNU 150 Watch List, talked with Tennessee linebacker coach Peter Sirmon, who extended the offer to Daniel.
“I’ve been trying to reach him for a couple weeks,” Daniel said, who added it was the first time he’s talked with Sirmon.
Much like the Oklahoma offer Daniel received earlier this month, Daniel did not have any previous contact with Tennessee before the offer. When Daniel finally was able to speak with Sirmon, he said he was impressed with what he saw from Daniel on tape.
“He said he watched me on tape, and that I’m an outstanding player and he’s going to recruit the heck out of me,” Daniel said.
Daniel hasn’t seen much of Tennessee except for a few pieces of games every now and then, but he’s familiar with the state as he has family in both Memphis and Nashville. Daniel is impressed with some of the players the Volunteers have put in the NFL, though.
“I know they’ve had some athletes from past like Eric Berry,” he said.
This week, Daniel spoke briefly with Indiana assistant Mark Hagen and Minnesota assistant Jeff Phelps, too. Hagen and Phelps have both talked to Daniel before.
“[Hagen] was telling me they’re right down the road and that I’m a heck of a player and they’d love to have me be one of those [program] changers,” Daniel said.
