Running back Daniel Brooks (Port Lavaca, Texas/Calhoun) never gave anyone a reason to doubt his intentions, but his verbal commitment to Oklahoma has been talked about by fans for months.
There were early rumors of Brooks looking at Texas. Or maybe Texas A&M or TCU. The whole time Brooks, a three-star prospect, simply focused on what he could control.Miller Safrit/ESPN.com
Daniel Brooks enjoyed his first regular season visit to Oklahoma.
He seemed to slam the door shut by not showing up to the Red River Rivalry game against Texas last month. The Longhorns extended the invitation, but Brooks decided he didn’t want to lead Texas on or make OU worry.
And now that Brooks has taken his official visit, Sooners fans shouldn't worry.
“It went great, real great,” Brooks said. “The game went good, and I loved the atmosphere.”
Brooks’ host was sophomore wide receiver Jaz Reynolds. It wasn’t the first time Brooks has been on the OU campus as he attended the Sooners' spring game.
Spring game atmosphere vs. regular season atmosphere, however, are two totally different things.
“It was a big change from the spring,” Brooks said. “It made me want to get out on the field and start playing with them.”
The status of his commitment hasn’t been the only issue in Brooks’ senior season. He transferred from Rockdale, Texas, to Port Lavaca Calhoun. The move has worked out for the best as Port Lavaca Calhoun just completed its first 10-0 regular season in school history.
“This is the best team I’ve been on, by far,” Brooks said. “The regular season was nice, but now we have to finish.”
