Every weekday morning, a member of the SoonerNation gives his take on three things happening in the Sooner sports world.
1. As much as OU fans had to be thrilled to see ESPN 150 wide receiver Torii Hunter Jr. (Prosper, Texas/Prosper) tear it up at The Opening, there had to be some fans who didn’t like that the cat is out of the bag. Hunter, who has the Sooners in his short list, might see some newfound interest from top programs across the nation now that he performed well during the 7-on-7 contests in Beaverton, Ore. There wasn’t much Hunter couldn’t do in earning MVP honors and raising his profile even more.
2. It’s July 9, is it too early to talk about the Red River Rivalry? Heck no, we’re only less than three months away. SoonerNation and HornsNation will continue to provide content to whet your appetite this week. On the forums, chime in on what you think is the most memorable OU play in the rivalry. Not among the choices, but I really like the 2002 play in the fourth quarter. Nate Hybl found receiver Will Peoples, who fumbled at the goal line only for Quentin Griffin to recover and score. It was 17-14 Texas at the time, and the Sooners went on to win 35-24.
3. OU hasn’t nabbed a California recruit for the 2013 class, but the Sooners are still fighting the good fight. Top defensive backs Max Redfield (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) and Hatari Byrd (Fresno, Calif./Central East) have mentioned OU among their favorites. Byrd will definitely take an official visit to OU in October, while Redfield has OU in his top six, which could lead to an official visit down the line.
