As spring concluded, it was clear that Trey Metoyer is the future at the receiver position for Oklahoma.
Two months later, it’s clear the future is now.
Metoyer went from potential breakout star to a player who will be counted on to make significant contributions if the Sooners plan to compete for a Big 12 championship.
“Trey has the potential to be a big-time player,” OU coach Bob Stoops said recently.
Fortunately for OU, he appears ready for the challenge after a stellar spring and he’s carried himself with a maturity and focus that belies his age since he stepped on campus in January.
“What I saw in the winter and spring was as encouraging and positive as anyone I’ve worked with,” Stoops said. “He’s the type of guy that is just different than normal freshmen. I’m hopeful that will continue.”
A four-star prospect, Metoyer ranked No. 51 overall in the ESPN 150 for the Class of 2011 before spending one semester at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.
