It hould be an eventful weekend for Oklahoma on the recruiting trail. With OU having its second junior day on Saturday, here's a look at the confirmed visitors who are planning to be on campus this weekend:
For more on the recruits most likely to commit to the Sooners, check out our forum.
DE Jay Arnold (Heath, Texas/Rockwall-Heath): Offers – Baylor, Ole Miss, Northwestern, Purdue, SMU, Texas A&M, Tulsa. Arnold is one of several defensive ends expected on campus and has the connection with his sister already a student at OU.
WR Marcell Ateman (Wylie, Texas/East): Offers – Arizona, Baylor, Iowa State, Michigan, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Purdue, Tennessee, Texas Tech, Virginia, Washington State. Ateman is clearly one of the best wide receivers in Texas and will be joined by teammate Quan Jones at junior day.
OG Rob Boyd (Vian, Okla./Vian): Offers – Tulsa, Memphis, Navy. Boyd is a lot of people’s favorite for who will be the first commit of the 2013 class. He said he won’t commit Saturday but you never know. Tulsa and OU are his two favorites.
LB/S Raaquan Davis (Heath, Texas/Rockwall-Heath): Offers – Baylor, Connecticut, Ole Miss, Northwestern. Davis was supposed to be at the first junior day but something came up. He is making sure he is not missing this second opportunity.
DE Matt Dimon (Katy, Texas/Katy): Offers – OU, Arkansas, Baylor, Missouri, Rice. Even before Dimon had the OU offer, the Sooners were among his favorites. Right now it’s a two-team race between OU and Baylor.
RB Keith Ford (Cypress, Texas/Ranch): Offers – OU, Alabama, Florida State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Baylor, Michigan, North Carolina, Notre Dame, OSU, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah. OU has offered several quality backs in the 2013 class, but the Sooners best shot appears to be with Ford at this point.
TE Jeremiah Gaines (Red Oak, Texas/Red Oak): Offers – North Texas, TCU. OU has already offered a handful of tight ends but that’s not stopping Gaines from making the trip to see what OU brings to the table.
DE/LB Deon Hollins Jr. (Fort Bend, Texas/Marshall): Offers – OU, Arkansas, Arizona, Stanford, Colorado, Notre Dame, Duke, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Texas A&M, Utah, Washington, West Virginia, Kansas State, Oregon, Texas Tech. No guarantee he’ll be on campus, but it would be a major get if he shows up.
WR Ellis Jefferson (Denton, Texas/Guyer): Offers – Colorado, Mississippi State. Jefferson is the only non-Wylie East receiver to be invited to this junior day.
CB Devanta Johnson (Tulsa, Okla./East Central): Offers – None. There is not a more curious visitor than Johnson. With invites to other junior days, Johnson is electing to see OU as a non-invitee.
WR Quan Jones (Wylie, Texas/East): Offers – Arizona, Baylor, Iowa State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Purdue, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington State. Feels like it should be a mere formality with Jones getting an OU offer this weekend.
DT Justin Manning (Dallas/Kimball) – Arizona, KSU, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan, Ole Miss, North Carolina, Oregon State, Purdue, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, Tech, UCLA, USC. A Sooner legacy, Manning has made it clear he has come to Norman for one reason this weekend, and that’s to get an offer.
DT Antonio McGhee (Bossier City, La./Parkway): Offers – Oklahoma State, Oregon State, South Carolina. McGhee has hit it off with OU defensive tackles coach Jackie Shipp and is very high on OU.
DE Jordan Points (Heath, Texas/Rockwall-Heath): Offers – SMU. The last of the Rockwall-Heath trio, Points is another defensive end with good size at a 6-foot-4.
LB T.J. Ponds (Wagoner, Okla./Wagoner): Offers – None. The only in-state linebacker who will be on campus this weekend. Ponds has been a longtime OU fan and is hoping to develop a good rapport with Tim Kish.
DE Dalton Rodriguez (Tulsa, Okla./Union): Offers – Tulsa, Texas Tech. Rodriguez has let it be known that the west coast teams are his favorites but that could change with a quality visit this weekend.
WR Ra'Shaad Samples (Dallas/Skyline): Offers – OU, Arkansas, California, UCLA, Colorado State, Colorado, Nebraska, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Tulsa, Texas A&M, Houston, Texas, Mississippi State, Kansas, Kansas State, Purdue, SMU, Texas Tech. No guarantee Samples will make the trip, but he definitely wants to after receiving offer last week.
OT Dan Skipper (Arvada, Colo./Ralston Valley): Offers – Arizona State, Colorado, Colorado State, Duke, Vanderbilt. At 6-foot-8, a lot of people have questioned his ability to play tackle, but Skipper’s interest has picked up in the last month.
DB Maurice Smith (Sugar Land, Texas/Dulles): Offers – OU, Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, LSU, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Utah, Notre Dame. Big week for Smith, adding Notre Dame and Alabama to an already impressive set of offers.
RB Adam Taylor (Katy, Texas/Katy): Offers – OU, Oklahoma State, Arkansas, Baylor, Colorado, Illinois, LSU, Northwestern, Stanford, Wisconsin. A torn ACL cut Taylor’s junior season short but certainly hasn’t hurt the interest level on the trail.
DE D.J. Ward (Lawton, Okla./Lawton): Offers – OU, Oklahoma State, Oregon State, Tulsa, Texas Tech, Arizona, KSU, Tennessee, Texas A&M. Another popular pick for first commit of 2013, Ward said it won’t happen this weekend. There are still too many schools he wants to see.
