ESPNU Watch List defensive end Jonathan Allen (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) has not heard from Oklahoma recently but his interest in the Sooners remains strong.
“I haven’t talked to them recently,” said Allen, who was offered by Brent Venables before the former OU defensive coordinator left for Clemson. “But I plan to talk with them more as the weeks progress. I’m still very interested. I’m narrowing my schools and Oklahoma is still one of them.”
A superb basketball player, Allen fits the mold of the hybrid defensive end/linebacker the Sooners have been recruiting in recent years.
At 6-foot-3, 225-pounds, Allen has offers from OU, Alabama, Florida, Michigan among others.
“Alabama, Oklahoma, Penn State, Michigan, Florida and NC State are my top six,” Allen said. “Those are the ones I’m focused on right now.”
Even though Allen is on the East Coast, the Sooners stood out to him growing up and he tends to watch OU in its nationally televised games.
“I’ve seen quite a few [games],” Allen said. “I always watch the Oklahoma-Texas game. I watch them on TV a lot.”
Allen is hoping to commit before his senior season but expects to take his official visits and the Sooners could earn one of those official visits.
