Name: Ty Darlington

Position: Center

Height, Weight: 6-foot-3, 275 pounds

Hometown/School: Apopka, Fla./Apopka

Committed: June 17, 2011

Scout grade: 80. Four-star prospect.

Scout rankings: No. 148 in the ESPNU150, No. 2 center, No. 67 in the Southeast region, No. 27 in Florida

Accolades: Army All-American

Picked OU over: Auburn, Florida State, LSU, Michigan, Michigan State, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech and others

State of the position: Ben Habern is a three-year starter and Gabe Ikard has proven he can fill in admirably at the center position. One of the deepest positions on the roster.

Pros: “Darlington demonstrates the foot quickness and playing strength to block "0" technique defenders with great success. Has the size and athleticism for the center position at the major level of competition. Is very accurate handling shotgun snaps. His quick hands and nimble feet should be assets in pass protection; demonstrates the ability to shotgun snap and short set quickly when covered.” - ESPN analyst

Cons: “Over time we expect Darlington to add some bulk to his frame.” - ESPN analyst

Similar to/potential role: Ben Habern. He has the ability to be a multi-year starter at center for the Sooners. He’s athletic and intelligent, similar to Habern and Ikard who are the anchor of OU’s current offensive line.

Expected impact: 2013. After a redshirt season, Darlington should be ready to play but he could play immediately if necessary. He’s very talented and could be ready to play but the Sooners depth at the position should allow him to get bigger and stronger. Long term, don’t be surprised if he becomes a multi-year starter and anchor for the Sooners interior much like Habern and Ikard.
