Linebacker Devin Rolan (McAlester, Okla./McAlester) hasn’t been shy about letting people know he wants to attend Oklahoma.
Rolan, 6-foot and 220 pounds, came out of nowhere in the spring, but has quickly become one of the state’s best 2013 prospects.
He went to two Sooners home games this season and has also been invited to the U.S. Army All-American Combine in January in San Antonio.
As a junior, he was the leader of the McAlester defense and had 113 tackles and five sacks.
SoonerNation: You’ve mentioned repeatedly how much you want to be a Sooner, when did you first start becoming a fan?
Devin Rolan: I’ve been an OU fan for as long as I can remember, since I was like 3 years old. My dad is a Sooner fan. My mom is a Sooner fan. It would be a dream come true to get that opportunity.
SN: You talk about that dream, how close do you feel that is from becoming a reality?
Rolan: I think it’s getting closer and closer. I’m keeping a good relationship with Coach [Brent] Venables. We’ve been talking on Facebook a lot more lately, and I definitely want to make another trip back there. It’s been too long.
SN: The Sooners are No. 1 on your list, but you also made an unofficial visit to Nebraska in October. How did that go?
Rolan: They have real nice facilities there and take a lot of pride in their defense. It was so loud in that stadium. That’s the type of environment I want to play in. I love the type of style their defense is. They play real hard.
SN: It's been a couple of weeks since the end of the season, been able to take it easy?
Rolan: No way. I went right back to work. I’ve been hanging out and working out with Adam Boyd [Tulsa commit], and I’ve been thinking about going down to Tulsa to see how things are like there. I’d also like to make a visit to Michigan, but I’m not sure when that can happen.
SN: Are you working on anything in particular in this offseason?
Rolan: I get asked that question all the time. I’m not working on any one thing. I’m working on everything. You can always get better. Nothing is ever good enough. But if there was one thing I’m really looking to improve it’s my speed and footwork. I’m not afraid about my strength. I love to hit people, but I can always get faster.
