Oklahoma co-offensive coordinator Jay Norvell’s third annual youth football camp is coming back to Norman next week.
The camp, located at the Whittier Recreation Center, is for kids ages 8-14, runs from 9-12 p.m. June 10-13 and costs $79.
“I have a junior high kid, and what I started realizing was that he has these buddies who couldn’t afford to come to camp,” Norvell said. “This camp is a real affordable, real economical camp experience for Norman families.”
Several former OU players and current graduate assistants will be part of the camp staff. The camp has also reached out and invited kids affected by the Moore tornado.
“When you work with youth kids, you’re trying to transfer your love of football,” Norvell said. “When I was a kid going to camp, those guys instilled the love of the game in me. It brings it to a pure level.”
The camp, Norvell said, will focus on teaching fundamentals from a proper receiver's stance to the right way to grip a football, but will also feature plenty of competition.
