Edmond, Okla., is becoming a popular destination for the Oklahoma coaching staff in the last few years. And with the talent there now, the Sooners will certainly stick around the area.
Most of the attention is focused on Edmond Santa Fe and 2014 quarterback Justice Hansen. But there is another 2014 athlete from Edmond making noise in Edmond North’s Michael Farmer. He transferred to Edmond North in the summer, and at 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, got a taste of OU at the spring game. In limited time, he has two rushing touchdowns this season as the Edmond North coaching staff is trying to make sure he is healthy for the season. He returned to Norman last Saturday for OU’s 69-13 victory against Florida A&M.
SoonerNation: How was the experience Saturday?
Michael Farmer: It was cool. It was nothing I hadn’t seen before, but it was still a good time. I was able to talk with coach Josh Heupel and coach Bobby Jack Wright. It was a good time.
SN: How was this experience different than the last time you were on campus?
Farmer: I kind of liked the campus this time around. The first time I saw the campus there weren’t as many people around, and I didn’t think too much of it. But to see everybody out and doing things and seeing what the atmosphere was like, it was pretty cool.
SN: You’re playing running back in high school. The thought is you could either be there or a linebacker in college. Have you talked to the Sooners about position preference?
Farmer: No, we haven’t talked at all about that. I’m going to continue doing what I’m doing, and I think they want to see how my body grows for where I will fit best.
SN: OU was one of the first schools to reach out to you, but Arizona State was the first. How are things with the Sun Devils?
Farmer: They’re right up there with the Sooners. We talk a lot, and they’re ready to see me. I was supposed to take an unofficial visit there this summer, but I ended up going on vacation with my family.
SN: Any other schools starting to join in the pursuit?
Farmer: Texas Tech has been talking to me a lot lately. I would like to go down there for the Tech-Texas game. I hope that happens.
SN: Huge showdown coming up Friday against Edlam rival Santa Fe. How excited are you for the chance to be city champs?
Farmer: Oh man, I’m so fired up. I wish the game was right now. This is going to be a good one. We’re rested. We’re ready. It’s definitely my time to shine, and we’re going to prove a lot of people wrong. These are the kind of games you want to play in.
