Coach praises Sterling Shepard's effort

September, 12, 2012
NORMAN, Okla. -- Freshman slot receiver Sterling Shepard played sparingly during Oklahoma’s first game against UTEP. Shepard got more playing time against Florida A&M and made the most of it. He finished with 48 receiving yards on three catches, including a sliding 28-yard grab across the middle of the field from backup quarterback Blake Bell.

“I was really happy for Sterling,” said receivers coach Jay Norvell. “It’s really important to him. To play the way that he played Saturday ... I was excited to see him without the ball. Ff you go back and watch that game, when he wasn’t catching it, he was flying around. That’s the kind of effort that you’ve got to have.

“It’s obviously extremely important to the kid, and I just see him getting better and better as we move along. He’s going to be a good player.”
