On Wednesday, the Polynesian Football Hall of Fame released the 2016 watch list for the Polynesian College Football Player of the Year Award. There aren't many players east of the Rocky Mountains on the list, but Oklahoma offensive lineman Dru Samia made the cut as one of the two representatives from the Big 12.
Samia became one of 10 freshmen in Oklahoma history to start at offensive tackle, something he did nine times. Samia played in all 12 games.
The watch list candidates were selected on both past performance and future potential, with the winner being announced on Dec. 7. Past award winners include Baltimore Ravens OL Ronnie Stanley and Tennessee Titans QB Marcus Mariota.
