Oklahoma's Kerry Cooks sends a message in first meeting

On Thursday, Oklahoma's new position coaches -- receivers coach Dennis Simmons, defensive backs coach Kerry Cooks and defensive line coach Diron Reynolds -- met with local media for the first time since putting on the OU logo.

Several interesting tidbits came out of the short session, including a tale from Cooks, the Sooners' new defensive backs coach, about putting Oklahoma's pass-defense ranking (No. 114) on the projector during his first meeting with the players.

“I wasn’t here, but it’s unacceptable for OU," Cooks told Ryan Aber of The Oklahoman. "I just wanted to make sure that I set that tone. The message is we’ve got to be better than that."

Cooks has a lot of work to do to get the Sooners defensive backfield up to speed, but last Saturday's spring game was a good early sign as defensive backs Ahmad Thomas, Jordan Thomas, William Johnson and Hatari Byrd each had interceptions in the game.
