Martin, Molk to the Senior Bowl
By Michael Rothstein
Michigan football is back in the spotlight -- and it is continuing its tradition of sending players to postseason All-Star Games.
Defensive tackle Mike Martin and center David Molk have been invited to the Senior Bowl, Martin told WolverineNation on Thursday.
"I know Dave's going so that'll be cool to go with a guy, a teammate," Martin said. "It's a big opportunity and first thing is first, the Sugar Bowl. After that, I'll dive right in."
The Senior Bowl will take place on Jan. 28, 2012 in Mobile, Ala. It is possible other Michigan seniors could end up in the Senior Bowl or other postseason bowl all-star games.
Michigan has had 63 players participate in past Senior Bowls, including every year since 1995. Michigan offensive guard Stephen Schilling participated in the 2011 Senior Bowl. Brandon Graham and Zoltan Mesko were in the 2010 Senior Bowl, and Tim Jamison and Morgan Trent were in the 2009 game.
For the players before him and now for Martin himself, it is the first step toward a career in pro football.
"That’s the other thing that’ll be weird to get used to," Martin said. "I look at football as a game. It is and I love doing it. But when you do graduate, it is a job and that’s something I don’t look at it as that way but it is what it is. I have to mature on my end of it, taking that approach, which I have been and am really serious, obviously, about football.
"I’m tweaking my mindset a little bit. It is something I have to do."
