McCray commits to Michigan

By Tom VanHaaren

Michigan's recruiting success early on in the process has continued with the addition of linebacker Mike McCray (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) in the 2013 class. McCray committed to Michigan on Tuesday after taking a visit to Ann Arbor, and he gives the Wolverines one more big-time playmaker in the class.

"I chose Michigan because it is the right place for me," he said. "I just woke up and my heart and God was telling me that Michigan is the place, and it's time to make my decision. That's what I did, and I just followed my heart and God."

The 6-foot-3, 225-pound backer chose Michigan over Illinois, Tennessee, Arizona, Louisville and Nebraska, among others.

The commitment from McCray gives Michigan 11 prospects within the ESPNU 150 Watch List, and the fifth prospect from the state of Ohio.

His size, speed and playmaking ability are exactly what the defensive coaches at Michigan are looking for. McCray should fit right in with Greg Mattison's scheme.

McCray is the first linebacker commit for the Wolverines, but definitely won't be the last. Michigan is still targeting top prospects at the position and are in great shape for Ben Gedeon (Hudson, Ohio/Hudson) and E.J. Levenberry (Woodbridge, Va./C.D. Hylton). Both of those prospects could be making their decisions soon, and would give Michigan another great linebacker haul.
