OL Joshua Garnett picks Stanford

By Greg Biggins

Offensive lineman Joshua Garnett (Puyallup, Wash./Puyallup) decided he would take his considerable talent to Stanford, picking the Cardinal in a tight race over Michigan.

"It was close, but I just felt Stanford was the best overall fit for me," Garnett said. "I've been up to Stanford several times, and it just always felt like home to me. They have the best combination of academics and football in the country, and I really love everything about the place.

“I already know a lot of the players on the team and the recruiting class coming in is strong. I'm close with the coaching staff and especially Coach [Mike] Bloomgren, the offensive line coach, and Randy Hart, who recruits my area.

“I love the strength and conditioning program, and I’ve seen firsthand how much bigger and stronger the Stanford players get. I knew David DeCastro in high school, and he was always strong, but now he’s benching over 500 pounds and is an absolute beast. That's how I want to be."

Garnett also had high praise for Michigan as well.

"Oh man, I loved it at Michigan, that was a great visit," Garnett said. "I never expected to like Michigan as much as I did. Their tradition and fan support is second to none, I love the academic support, and I loved the coaches as well.

"Eric Magnuson is a great friend, and we talked all the time. He was recruiting me like crazy, but in the end, I just felt a little better about Stanford. I couldn't have gone wrong with either school, and I'm very thankful to all the coaches who recruited me. Everyone was great and first class, but I'm thrilled to be a Cardinal right now."

Garnett is the fifth offensive line commitment for the Cardinal, and they’re in the running for two more. Kyle Murphy (San Clemente, Calif./San Clemente) and Andrus Peat (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol) both will announce on signing day.
