Watch List OL says U-M should make cut
By Chantel Jennings
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Watch List offensive lineman Jamarco Jones (Chicago/De La Salle Institute) has decided that he’d like to commit in late July or early August. He also plans to cut to eight to 10 schools by May and in order to do that he wanted to get in as many visits as possible.
With several visits already made to Ann Arbor, Jones said the Wolverines have a very good chance of making the initial cut as they’ve made such a positive impression. However, rivals Michigan State and Ohio State -- places he also has made multiple visits -- also have good chances of making that list.
When it comes to evaluating programs for his top group, Jones said he’s looking at academics, coaching staffs and the general direction of the program.
He’s on his spring break this week and will be spending it making college visits to Notre Dame, Michigan, Michigan State and Wisconsin. Jones will be visiting practice in Ann Arbor on Thursday and spending the night on campus with some players to try and get a feel for all aspects of the program.
“This will be my first practice [visit], so just to see what it’s like,” Jones said. “I just want to see what it’s like to be around the players and on campus.”
Jones said he speaks with the Michigan coaching staff quite a bit between mailings every week and talking on the phone. However, he’s excited to get on campus again to speak with the coaches in person as he has built a strong relationship with offensive line coach Darrell funk.
“That definitely plays a role,” Jones said. “I’ve been able to develop a relationship with Coach [Harry] Hiestand at Notre Dame and Coach Funk from Michigan, and the tradition that both schools have, it really does help. I would like to have the opportunity to possibly play in the NFL and I want the best coaches possible helping me get there to become the best player I can be.”
