2014 Michigan linebacker targets
By Tom VanHaaren
With linebacker Michael Ferns (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville) already committed to Michigan for 2014, the coaching staff has some leeway with what other linebackers they can take. Some of the prospects have said the coaches only plan to take one more in this class, but everything depends on the overall numbers going forward.
Here is a look at some of the linebacker targets for 2014:
After Michael Ferns, Michigan might only have room for one more linebacker in the 2014 class.
Michael Ferns St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville 6-3, 240 pounds
Ferns is a huge get for Michigan as he was one of the bigger linebacker targets across the country. He's a smart kid, an outstanding football player and he has been a huge recruiter for Michigan so far in 2014.
Berger has said Michigan is recruiting him as a SAM backer and seems to have high interest in the Wolverines. He has only taken visits to Michigan and Ohio State thus far, and those two schools could ultimately be the top two. Much like Ferns, Berger also wants to be pre-med in school and is examining all his options. He would like to make his decision around May after taking a few more visits and watching some spring practices.
Williams is teammates with 2014 defensive back Adoree Jackson, who also holds a Michigan offer. The recruitment Williams, a Watch List linebacker, has blown up recently, gaining offers from across the country. He says he does have interest in Michigan, but until he schedules a visit we won't know how interested he actually is.
Morgan is a familiar name for Michigan fans as his former teammate, 2013 wide receiver Laquon Treadwell, brings up some not-so-great memories. Early in the process it seemed as though Michigan was a team Morgan mentioned quite a bit, but everything has kind of slowed down for him. The Watch List linebacker has picked up quite a few offers and it looks as if he will take his time with the process and take some visits to schools across the country.
Brandon Lee Indianapolis/Lawrence Central 6-2, 200 pounds
Lee has been in contact with Michigan and the coaches have told him they will evaluate his film. Lee is a prospect that could get an offer down the road but, much like the rest of the class, it will depend on the other numbers and what other prospects decide to do.
It is still very early in Winovich's recruitment, but he has already started to pick up offers and interest. He already holds offers from Florida State, Akron, Northwestern, Pitt and West Virginia. He doesn't plan to get too involved in his recruitment until basketball season is over, but he has heard some from Michigan already. The Wolverines are a team that he has definite interest in, but it will have to wait until he's ready.
Kyron Watson East St. Louis, Ill./East St. Louis 6-2, 215 pounds
Watson has recently heard from Michigan, but the conversation hasn't gotten too far yet. He has been in contact with quite a few schools, but is still waiting for his offer list to take off.
