Michigan DE decommits from Ohio State
By Brad Bournival
After giving his commitment to the Buckeyes on Sunday, the recruitment of a 2014 defensive end out Michigan is on again three days later.
No sooner had 6-foot-4, 205-pound DE Lawrence Marshall (Southfield, Mich./Southfield) given his commitment to Ohio State that he confirmed via text message he was looking around again. He took in the Michigan State-Michigan basketball game on Tuesday in East Lansing and was in Ann Arbor on Wednesday.
“I had a great time at Michigan State yesterday, I had a wonderful time at Michigan today, and an ever better time at Ohio State,” Marshall said Wednesday on his official Twitter account. “But I want to consider other schools, so I am decommitting from Ohio State.”
Marshall has offers from Bowling Green, Indiana, Michigan, Michigan State, Ohio State, Pittsburgh, San Diego State, Syracuse, Tennessee and Toledo.
With Marshall's decommitment, Ohio State now has four pledges in the recruiting class of 2014.
His commitment to Ohio State came as somewhat of a surprise on Sunday when he joined offensive tackle Kyle Trout (Lancaster, Ohio/Lancaster) and running back Parris Campbell Jr. (Akron, Ohio/St. Vincent-St. Mary) in the Buckeyes’ Class of 2014.
Trout and Campbell have been longtime fans and in-state stars, so commitments from the tandem were almost thought to be assumed.
Marshall lives 40 minutes outside of the University of Michigan and plays a position Ohio State is pretty well-stocked at.
In 2012, Urban Meyer put five defensive linemen in the class. Last Wednesday, the two-time national champion added Billy Price (Youngstown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch), Tracy Sprinkle (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria), Michael Hill (Pendleton, S.C./Pendleton), Tyquan Lewis (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro), Joey Bosa (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas) and Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) to the fold.
In giving Ohio State his decommitment, Marshall is the third decommitment in a week for the Buckeyes, who saw 2013 wide receiver Taivon Jacobs (Forestville, Md./Suitland) and senior punter Johnny Townsend (Orlando, Fla./Boone) say no to them on signing day.
Meyer isn’t one to turn away from a fight, so expect Ohio State to continue recruiting Marshall.
