Commit No. 3 in for Michigan
By Tom VanHaaren
Michigan has landed its third commitment for the 2014 class, and added another big piece to the future defense. Now with two commitments within the ESPN Watch List, Michigan is starting to pick up momentum with the 2014 class.
Defensive tackle Bryan Mone (Salt Lake City/Highland) gave his commitment to Michigan on Tuesday, making an earlier decision than some expected.
The initial plan was for Mone to bring his father to Ann Arbor, Mich., since he wasn't able to make the last trip to Michigan with the rest of the family. The 6-4, 315-pound tackle decided that wasn't necessary and called the coaches with the news.
"It was just a great program, and I couldn't wait," he said.
Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison is familiar with 300-pound defensive tackles from Highland as he used to coach Haloti Ngata with the Baltimore Ravens, who hails from the same school. It's too early to make that type of comparison, but this is a big addition to Michigan's defensive efforts to go along with linebacker commit Michael Ferns (St. Clairsville, Ohio/St. Clairsville).
Michigan also has quarterback Wilton Speight (Richmond, Va./Collegiate School) committed in the 2014 class.
